Broken Bow, Oklahoma has become a popular escape destination over the last year as the pandemic has squashed so many vacation plans. We generally leave our pets and our pup at home with our incredible team of pet sitters and dog walkers (Abbie actually loves when we leave because we schedule her for five walks a day!), but she is in training right now and we needed to go on a trip a few hours distance in the car where she would spend the night in a near-home like environment. So, this month, we took a Pup Friendly Vacation to Broken Bow!
Pup Friendly Cabin
Sometimes the hardest part of vacationing with your pet is finding a pet-friendly place to stay! This one fell into our lap and we could not have been happier with it! It was truly PERFECT! The Dew Drop Inn Cabin in Hochatown was cozy, spacy, fully equipped with everything we needed – and most of all – DOG FRIENDLY! This cabin had two master rooms (which made it perfect for friends to join us) AND an upstairs game room that had even more beds to stay in! Our friend’s daughter LOVED the space, the variety of sleeping options and the hideaway with beanbags to hang out in! On top of a huge fire pit with lots of chairs, a hot tub with a gorgeous view and the most beautiful porch – the property even has a creek flowing through it that you can hear from open windows or the awesome balcony. The cabin had luxury towels, cozy bedding – and Abbie’s FAVORITE part? Super soft blankets she could cuddle with on the couch AND on the bed! It was pup friendly in all the ways that mattered, family and friend-family friendly too!
Pup Friendly Adventures
There is so much to do in Broken Bow whether you love the outdoors or are looking for porch sitting and relaxing! From wineries to lake fun to hiking to kids activities – they have a little bit of everything! After Chris’s back surgery and my recent ankle surgery, we wanted to test out our hiking prowess. Abbie LOVES to hike! So, we headed over to Beavers Bend State Park and tried out one of their intermediate trails. We spent a good hour hiking, Abbie smelled all the things and we saw some beautiful views of the lake! It was a great dive back into an activity we absolutely love and have not been able to do enough!
Pup Friendly Eating
When you bring your pets on vacation, one of the complicated parts is finding places to eat out with them! Most places have rules against leaving your pets in the cabin or hotel room, so you learn to adjust and look for places to eat with your dogs. When looking, it wasn’t SUPER easy to find “dog friendly patios,” but we did find that Grateful Head Pizza Oven & Tap Room DID have a dog friendly patio! We weren’t sure what to expect, and we were blown away! There was AMPLE space under a covered patio area and even more space uncovered (had it not been raining). Immediately upon arrival, Abbie was happy to discover a piece of crust waiting for her on the ground! Ha! She was in doggy heaven! The wait staff was thrilled to see a dog and had no problem with us plopping a cushion down in between tables for Abbie to sit. It was a fantastic dining experience for our first time taking Abbie somewhere!
It turned out our pup friendly vacation to Broken Bow was the perfect introductory training exercise for Abbie! We had so much fun and can’t wait to return again! Next time though, we’ll plan for more time to relax and hang out at Dew Drop Inn!
